Description

The starting point of the first stage is Habergschwänd. From here you have an impressive view of the imposing Churfirsten – a natural monument of national importance. From Habergschwänd to the turnoff at AlpHummel, information boards on geological phenomena in the Sardona World Heritage Site can be found on a partly newly created hiking trail. Up to the Mürtschenfurggel, the stage leads past the so-called Helllochdoline, a large depression created by the collapse of an underground cavity. Past the Spaneggsee, we continue up to the Mürtschenalp, where various ore were mined in the 1850s. The ground here is blood-red due to red shale from the Verrucano Group. By the way, the fish-rich Murg lakes are a Mecca for fishermen (patents can be purchased locally).
